Very sticky in coverage - he is consistently right with the receiver regardless of route.
Great route recognition skills and has the ability to capitalize on it.
Great tackler with good wrap up technique and a knack for punching the ball.
Very physical player who is willing and able to mix it up with bigger receivers.
Has a good nose for the ball in the run game and likes to mix it up in the trenches.
Smooth movement skills with excellent lateral agility, and is a plus overall athlete.
Looks really solid in zone and man.

Concerns/Weaknesses

Too easily handled by bigger blockers in the run game (though you see him actively trying to fight through rather than just holding it).
His physical play style can lead to some avoidable penalties.
The long speed is probably good enough, but won’t be exciting.

Summary

Abney was a player I had zero expectations on going into the tape, and fell in love with after the first quarter of the first game. He has all the peripheral things I love seeing in a corner, and has the coverage skills in any scheme to boot. He has some potential problems, but I really like what I see as a baseline for him. His exceptional lateral agility might make the nickel a better home for him in the NFL (paired with his run game prowess), but I think he can play on the outside as well.
